The N82 was a flagship model from the Nokia’s N-series range of multimedia devices. It was released in the fourth quarter of 2007. The phone became extremely popular among the N-Series range of smartphones because it outperforms the N95 8GB slider in size but has even more features like the Xenon Flash. The N82 simply packs all the bells and whistles every Nokia smartphone has ever had, and more, into a very compact package. Read our exclusive Nokia N82 review of to find out more.

Look, Design, Feel (/10)

The Nokia N82 is available in standard black and silver colors. It is made of high-quality plastics finished with glossy color. Fingerprints are unavoidable on the Nokia N82; however, the silver colored version doesn’t look much affected by them. The feel of the phone is good, and gripping the phone in your hands feels solid, though it is not that lightweight at 114 grams. The N82 is not slim, however compact (considering its feature-set) at 17.3 mm. The 2.4” QVGA display is attractive to look at, capable of displaying 16M colors. There’s an ambient light sensor and a QCIF video camera for video calling, just above the display of the Nokia N82. The right side of the N82 consists of its stereo speakers; volume, camera and review keys. The D-pad seems to be sturdy and capable of resisting heavy use. A 3.5 mm audio output jack is included on the top of the phone for the comfort of music lovers. The only con is the nontraditional keypad design similar to that of the Nokia N91. However the keypad performed reasonably well for text input. The backside of the phone reveals the 5 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss Optics and an active lens cover.

Features (/10)

As we mentioned earlier, the Nokia N82 is an all-rounder. The Nokia N82 is equipped with 128 MB of SDRAM and an ARM11 332 MHz processor. There’s also Graphics acceleration to support N-gage games and VGA video recording on the device. Built on the Symbian OS 9.2 and S60 3rd edition FP1, the Nokia N82 has attractive and intuitive user menus and navigational support. The N82 is one of the first phones to support automatic screen rotation with the help of an accelerometer that senses the phone’s orientation. Nokia has bundled the Nokia Maps application for free access to maps of over a 100 countries. The Nokia N82 has a built-in GPS that lets you make full use of Navigation software. The new messaging and E-mail applications were very easy to use. The N-Series music player present on the N82 was very user-friendly and had good navigation support. The Nokia N82 can playback just about any sound format available for music devices. We miss the dedicated music keys of the Nokia N81. The N82 lacks support for RDS, but has a Visual Radio. One of the outstanding features of the Nokia N82 is that it has a Xenon Flash, and the strongest one we’ve seen on any mobile phone. You can take great pictures with this phone, even on the worst lighting conditions, thanks to the 5 MP camera with the Xenon Flash! Recorded VGA videos on this phone looked clear and crisp, very comparable to those of Nokia N95. The gallery application had a cool new look with its 3D animations. Worth mentioning is the Nokia Device Search application and the Voice recognition features of the Nokia N82. The phone doesn’t lack in memory features since it supports SDHC and can take current 16GB cards. The new Organizer and LifeBlog applications make managing personal data the easiest job. The N82 is one of Nokia’s flagship N-Gage phones, so it supports downloading and installing any number of N-Gage games through the N-Gage application present on the N-Series phone.

Connectivity (/10)

Connectivity on the N82 is top-notch as any other modern N-Series device. The N82 is a Quadband GSM with additional support for UMTS/HSDPA 2100 (up to 3.6Mbps). HSDPA, GPRS and EDGE Class 32 present on this phone make up for anywhere Internet connectivity in 5 continents. There’s no lack in local connectivity, the N82 has WLAN / uPnP support for 802.11b/g networks. Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and USB 2.0 connectivity complete the phone’s functionality. We only miss Global 3G like in the New Nokia N85.

Performance (/10)

The N82 performed reasonably giving about two days of heavy use. Nokia rates the talk time of the N82 as 4 hours 20 minutes. There’s also the long standby time of over a week.

Value for Money (/10)

Nokia has delivered on this smartphone which has the potential to replace many consumer electronic gizmos we use everyday. No doubt the Nokia N82 offers the best value for money in its class.
