Samsung is the top handset manufacturer in the US mobile phone market with 22.1 percent market share and Verizon Wireless is the top carrier with 31.1 percent market share, according to comScore April report.

The report reveals that Samsung is ranking as the top OEM at 22.1 percent share of U.S. mobile subscribers which comScore informs there were 234 million Americans age 13 and older.

Samsung is followed by LG with 21.8 percent share, former long-time market leader Motorola is now at 21.6 percent share, down with 1.3 percentage points, Research in Motion holds 8.4 percent share and, finally, Nokia has 8.1 percent market share.

camScore points out that Verizon Wireless is the leading U.S. mobile phone operator. The carrier holds 31.1 percent of mobile subscribers. The company is followed by AT&T with 25.2 percent market share, Sprint with 12 percent share, T-Mobile has 12 percent share as well and Tracfone has gained 5.1 percent share of the market.

The report informs that during February and April 2010, 64.6 percent of U.S. subscribers used text messaging on their handset and the Internet was used by 31.1 percent U.S. mobile subscribers. Downloads were made by 29.8 percent of the mobile audience while social networking sites and blogs were accessed by 19.9 percent of mobile subscribers.
