People to receive emergency text messages V.J. | , 2:18 बजे April 10, 2008 2008-04-10

A text message alerting system was proposed by FCC. Users will receive an alert with imperious information on immediate disasters.

The Federal Communications Commission has announced a project to set up an alert system that will use mobile phones to send messages to users in case of emergencies. According to CNN, cell phone companies can voluntarily opt for this service and their subscribers will receive a text messages in case of emergencies. There are three types of events:

  1. Terrorist attacks
  2. Hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes
  3. Child abductions and amber alerts.

The same news agency points out that many cell phone companies are already considering joining this project. T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint Nextel and AT&T may take part in the future service.

A new step has been taken to inform people on current highly important events, but users can chose not to receive them. For people with disabilities, cell phone companies must create a specific audio attention signal or vibration type.
