Orange and Universal Music have started a partnership in order to make available music for download legally. In the same time Orange expects to attract more subscribers and Universal Music hopes to reduce piracy with the launch of a music streaming service available to Orange pre-pay customers.
Apparently the service is aimed at 16-24 year-olds who don’t have 3G handsets of have mobile internet packages. The new service implemented in the Monkey package will offer each month 600 minutes of music streaming for 10 pounds.
Orange and Universal Music have also partnered with Channel 3 to promote Monkey via its music brand 4Music. 4Music will also manage the editorial content on the Monkey section of Orange’s site.
Pippa Dunn, director of pay-as-you-go at Orange, said, “It’s a great opportunity to acquire an audience that will increase their average spend and represent the future of our pay-monthly business too.”
