Mobile phones on Irish planes V.J. | , 9:23 बजे April 10, 2008 2008-04-10

Following the project initiated by the European Union to grand access to mobile phone on planes in European airspace, Aer Lingus, the Irish national air travel company, will begin preparations to allow clients using phones when flying.

At an altitude of 3,000 m, Aer Lingus clients will be able in the future to talk to anybody they want using mobile phone technology. A lower altitude for this service may not be possible as the European Aviation Safety Agency has adopted this restriction.

Many airline companies expressed their dislike for this new type of service. One of them is Lufthansa, which said that people may be bothered by other clients who talk on the phone the entire flight. Lufthansa probably has quiet and relaxing planes and travel policy, but this is not the case when we talk about Aer Lingus.

The Irish Ryanair planes are not quiet places, thus they encourage clients to talk on their phones. But this service doesn’t come very cheap. EU roaming rate is at 60 cents per minute when using regular service, but this is not the case for the type used in aircraft which is satellite-based. However, Ryanair said it will concentrate on lowering the price bringing it to no more than one euro per minute.

A Ryanair spokesman said they will equip a number of planes to go along with this new service. In June this year, they consider testing mobile phone technology on 20 Ryanair aircrafts.

Probably their faithful clients, who are used with travel commodities offered by Ryanair planes, smile hearing this future project but problems will occur when we think of new clients. Maybe, without speculating any further, Ryanair is trying to hold on to their trustily customers.
