Are you from New Zealand? If so you might have sent an SMS while driving, didn’t you? Maybe this is not the case but a recent study in New Zealand shows that drivers are inclined to send text messages while on the road.

AA Insurance accomplished a research concerning 2,500 drivers aged from 18 to 75 and the results are somehow stirring. Some 41% did send text messages while behind the wheel and with no hands-free kit of course. I’ve never been to New Zealand but as a pedestrian I’d be concerned of my safety.

Writing text messages while driving is far more dangerous than having a mobile phone conversation while driving. Shovers have to keep an eye on the road and the other to the phone which is pretty much impossible, isn’t it? Even lowering speed doesn’t increase impunity.

AA Insurance categorized its study to find out that more that 60% of drivers aged between 18 and 24 were texting behind the wheel. As age grown, percentage lowers according to New Zealand’s One News online publication. The same study showed that one in five men sent messages over the phone, while in the case of women we find out that one in four wrote text messages while driving.

The New Zealand Herald informs that a judge applied for a ban on texting while driving after a drunk driver killed a senior couple. At the accident’s moment he was sending a text message and was unable to pay any small fragment of attention to the road, thus ending the lives of two people.
