Deposit checks using cell phone camera V.J. | , 11:24 बजे July 31, 2009 2009-07-31

Mitek Systems, Inc. said it has signed an OEM agreement with Fiserv, Inc., a provider of financial services technology, for Mitek’s Mobile Deposit application, which allows customers to deposit their personal or business checks using a cell phone camera.

Mobile Deposit is designed to give financial institutions the ability to provide consumers and merchants with quicker availability to funds and an extra level of convenience.

The application supports the payments industry standards for remote deposit capture, and extends mobile deposit capabilities to consumers who use cell phones equipped with a camera. The product will be available on the iPhone, and selected BlackBerry and Windows Mobile handsets.

Fiserv said its research indicates that financial institutions believe that several market segments will be willing to pay for the convenience and faster funds availability of mobile device check capture, and that banks and credit unions will target small and large businesses that sell products and services at the buyer’s location, such as home appliance repair businesses and distributors with trucks in the field.

Mobile Deposit is part of Mitek’s family of productivity applications for cell phones with cameras. Recently, Mitek introduced Mobile Receipt, an iPhone camera application that automatically corrects photo images of receipts and allows users to create expense reports with a single touch.

San Diego-based Mitek Systems provides image analytics and mobile document capture applications for camera phones. The company originally developed a suite of character recognition software used to test, clean, authenticate and extract data from imaged checks, documents and objects.
