China Mobile, the largest wireless carrier in the world by the number of subscribers has revealed plans to produce a series of phones that will operate under its own operating system called Ophone.
Ophone is an Android-based operation system and a number of handset makers as Dell, LG and Motorola will release phones running the OS. Ophone handsets are to be used on the company’s 3G network, based on the Chinese TD-SCDMA standard.
The LG GW880 comes with TD-SCDMA connectivity support in addition to GSM / EDGE networks and CMMB/ MBBMS Mobile TV. The handset comes with a 3.5 inch touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It also comes with 512MB ROM and 256 MB RAM. In addition, the handset is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera.
Other Ophones running devices have been unveiled by China Mobile. The handsets are the Dell Mini 3i and the Lenovo Mobile O1. We should expect more handsets from China Mobile running their own Android-based operating system Android.
