I was wondering if you could use the the PI as a
disk cloning tool. Or even use it to repair an iffy drive, done this
using RIP linux from a PC. Or data recovery device done this via a PC
too but apart from taking ages to recover over 200 large photos it tied
up an office PC for a good 36 hours.
I guess I would need a powered hub and a USB to Sata interface (and use
an external power supply that plugs into the interface). Then the other
problem would be are there any drivers needed for it or would it be plug
and hopefully play ( I call it plug and pray)

So is it Possible, A Definite Maybe, Not sure or No Way.

If you need to recover data, then for an effective recovery of all files, it is best to contact the service. This is my personal opinion. All these manipulations that you told me about, I do not know what they can bring and whether you will get the result you were waiting for. In any case, I advise you to contact the raid data recovery [salvagedata.com] service that I usually turn to and just consult with them about your problem. As far as I remember, the consultation is free, and you don't have to pay any money at all. Well, that's what I would do if I were you, but it's up to you. I hope I have helped you, at least in some way.
