I had a laparatomy to remove an ovarian cyst but my body image has been very poor since. I keep thinking that I'm fat and unattractive. I have this horrible incision scar, my stomach feels lumpy and weird and I feel that I'm getting depressed over it. Is that common? I can't be the only one struggling with my body image after such an invasive procedure. I can't even exercise yet to try to fix my body and make myself look ok again.

The more we worry about our complexes, the scarier they seem. I remember the first three years after surgery with horror. Looking in the mirror was torture. I felt like my weight had tripled. My friends tried to reassure me and even bought me a bathroom scale [amazon.com] Vont with BMI. Over time, with the support of my friends and family, my fears began to pass. I wasn't afraid of that ugly scar. And my fullness added to my zest. After all, I remained the same person, and whoever cares for me will accept me as I am. The main thing is to believe in yourself.
