Video Conference Systems

Video Conferencing is an interactive communication pattern between two or more participants using the combined technology of audio and video transmission technologies. This interactive communication between participants happens simultaneously as if they were conversing with each other in a real situation. Video conferencing is parallel view of reality communication and known as virtual communication as difference only lies that the other participant is not present in person to communicate with you. Video Conferencing Systems are mainly used for business and educational purposes where the whole screen can be utilized for one-on-one talk or the screen can be divided to accommodate multiple participants and/or presentations, charts, etc.

History of Video Conferencing Systems dates back to 1968 when simple television sets where used for communication connected by a cable. Video Conferencing first came into the highlight with NASA’s first manned space flights where they were used with radio frequency links to transmit audio-video communication. Such technology is still used by T.V. channels to report to base station by reporters who are reporting from remote locations. It was in the 90s’ that IP based videoconferencing became possible with efficient audio and video compression techniques which allowed computer based video conferencing. Today Instant Messaging programs on most mobile phones and PC’s have video call capabilities which are commonly used.

Research in advanced conferencing technology improved with years as need for video conferencing systems for business setups increased. Businesses wanted to cut costs made on travelling to distant places for conducting business meetings. These meetings could be made through video conferencing with the same efficiency as a real conversation, if not more. Face to face conversation could display detailed expressions, reactions and clarity of each syllable of the audio discussion. This technology has been made possible by audio and video compression into small packets that are traversed through Internet and dedicated lines. As packets become smaller and compact, transmission has become faster than ever with lesser bandwidth resulting in high resolution images and clearer audio.

Components

The fundamental technology used in Video Conferencing systems is digital compression of audio and video streams, real time. Audio and Video components of a Video Conferencing system include codec’s, packets, modems, Video Camera / Web Cam, telephone line, Computer Monitor, projector, loudspeakers, analog or digital telephone network, LAN or Internet.

System Requirements

  • Broadband Internet Connection
  • Video camera or webcam, microphone, computer or TV, loudspeakers
  • Video conference system : Dedicated or Desktop System
  • If you want to upgrade the basic equipment then you will need to download video conferencing software like iVISIT.
  • You can also upgrade to higher end speaker, cameras, microphones or video equipment.
